The second layer consists of the undershawl and Ryarji socks, named after the royal tailor who first fashioned them 200 years ago during King Fenn Mehyin's reign.  The socks are worn by practically everyone in Cerey.  They're also made of a very dense, thick, and light insulative material that keeps the feet and lower legs warm and dry.  The undershawl is important  for it provides extra insulation for the shoulders and upper chest, which are the parts of the body that the wind hits the hardest during flying.
